One of the reasons I'm looking forward to the WCPL's upcoming New York Classic (June 9th, 10th, 11th) is the potential for some games that will take place between teams with rivalries that go back to the 1980s tournament scene.
I'm referring mostly to anticipated match-ups between the Ironmen and the All Americans, two teams that between them dominated tournament play for several years, but I'm also looking forward to games between those two and other long-standing franchises like the UK Predators and Lockout.
Sure the rosters have changed, classification systems have changed, and there's been a lot of water that's run under the bridge since any two of these teams faced off for the first time, but that doesn't change the excitement and anticipation of getting to see living paintball history in action, out in the woods where it all began.
This is the kind of thing that makes WCPL events unique in the world of paintball competition. Not only will we get to witness the continuation of a rivalry that the paintball equivalent of the Hatfields & McCoys, but we'll get to sit down, hang out and laugh while exchanging near forty-year old paintball stories with the people who were there.
You can't get that anywhere else.
